5 flights hacks you need to know

Updated: May 11

Are you dreaming of exploring new destinations but worried about the flight costs? In this post, we will cover the 5 flight hacks you need to know to help you find cheap flights and make your dream trips a reality! 1. Use Google flights: We've tested using a range of different flight search platforms, from Kayak to Skyscanner, but Google flights is our top pick. Google flights offer the best flight search filters, alongside the ability to use multi-city search for planning those bigger trips. Another great tool is the grid search function which, once you've entered your destination, shows you the most affordable dates to travel in each month. 2. Remember baggage costs: It's so easy to end up clicking through from a flight search site to the airline, only to find out your costs are doubled once you've added your bags. Some simple ways to think about this are, generally long-haul and well known airlines will offer a free 20-23kg checked bag. The more budget airlines will charge you a significant amount for this. An example of this would be booking flights to the US. Norse Atlantic offer some great prices at face value compared to Virgin Atlantic, however you'll have to pay extra during checkout with Norse if you need a checked bag, where it will be included in your original fare with Virgin.

3. Jack's Flight Club: There are some great services out there that help you skip the pain of finding those cheap deals. Jack's Flight Club is our recommendation for this and we've been using it for years. This service provides recommendations for cheap flights with a dedicated team checking for the best fares for destinations across the world. Being quick when an airline launches a sale, or when there are errors on airline sites which mean you can grab some amazing deals for nothing is so important when looking for the best bang for your buck. There are free and paid options (£4 per month), but we suggest that the paid option provides great value considering the amount of money you'll end up spending on the flights themselves. There's an app, alongside emails directly sent to your inbox as soon as cheap flights are discovered. 4. Consider Layovers: If you're travelling long distances, you can save by splitting your flights out. A great example is travelling from the UK to Australia, which we've done a number of times. There are great locations you can consider spending 1-3 nights like Singapore, Tokyo, or Dubai. Not only can this help you save money, but you can tick off an extra city whilst you're at it.

5. Be Open to Different Airlines: It can be tempting to stick to airlines you know when searching for your next flights. However, this is what these airlines are banking on and often the best known airlines charge the highest prices. Consider lesser known airlines next time you book and you could save hundreds, really. A great example of this was a recent flight we took to Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam from London, where we could've played it safe with the more established Vietnam Airlines. However, Bamboo Airways had just launched a new route between the two locations and despite the lack of airline reviews, our experience was really positive with comfortable seats, strong entertainment options and delicious food, not to mention the cheaper fare!

Conclusion: Finding cheap flights doesn't have to be a daunting task. By following these 5 tips, you'll be well on your way to scoring affordable airfares and making your travel dreams come true. Remember, with a little flexibility, research, and patience, you can find incredible flight deals that will leave you with more money to spend on unforgettable experiences at your destination. Happy travels!
